Mondo Soars Over 20 Feet; Camacho-Quinn Wins Close Hurdles Race; Crouser Wins First Competition Outside U.S. This Year By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Photos by Anna Spundova/World Athletics Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis cleared 20-1 (6.12m), the fourth-best result of his career outdoor in the pole vault, and tied for the sixth-best in history, on Tuesday at the Ostrava Golden Spike meet in the Czech Republic. It was a world outdoor best for Duplantis of Sweden, who scaled 6.22m for a world record indoors in February in France. Another world record holder, Ryan Crouser of the U.S., competed for the first in a month and in his first overseas trip of the year. Crouser, who smashed his own WR with 23.56m (77-3.75) in Los Angeles in May, won Tuesday's competition with a second-round 22.63m (74-3). Jasmine Camacho-Quinn from Puerto Rico edged out American Tia Jones for a victory in the women's 100-meter hurdles, clocking 12.42 seconds. Jones was timed in 12.44 and Nigerian world record holder Tobi Amusan was third with 12.47. Akani Simbine of South Africa won the men's 100 meters in 9.98 seconds, besting a field that included Canadian Andre DeGrasse, who finished third in 10.21. Diribe Welteji led a 1-2-3 finish for Ethiopians in the women's 1,500 meters with a meet record 3:57.38. Also from Ethiopia, Lamecha Girma, the Olympic silver medalist in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, won the men's 1,500 meters in a personal best time of 3:33.15. Kristjan Čeh of Slovenia threw a new meet record mark in the men's discus with 68.55m (224-11) on this sixth and final attempt.
